With endless sunny days, crisp blue skies and stunning mountain vistas, Buena Vista has a lot to offer anyone looking to deliberately choose a meaningful way of life. In town living here is especially charming. There is nothing quite like sitting on your front porch and having a friend stop by to visit, working in your garden, or meandering down to the corner Roastery or one of your favorite Main Street restaurants or retail stores. Our children ride their bikes to school and grow up with others helping to watch over them. They smile and greet neighbors and community members who genuinely know them and help them grow and be successful in today’s competitive world. It’s about sitting down at the annual BV Strong Community dinner and taking a moment to focus on what we have in common. There are many dimensions to the Buena Vista, Colorado lifestyle. A deep breath of crisp clean mountain air, a friendly wave and welcome as well as a wide variety of activities are just a bit of the allure attracting people from all over to this sweet mountain town.
Buena Vista has been compared to nearby ski resorts, however the uniqueness of the community and simplicity found in this rural mountain town is unlike any resort community. Buena Vista is home to over 2,700 year-round residents, and it is a popular second home destination for many urban Coloradans. In comparison to Colorado ski resorts and other “get-away” mountain communities, Buena Vista’s real estate market provides opportunity for property owners to enjoy the many outdoor activities year-round and realize consistent growth in their real estate investments.
So how does the housing market look today? As with most of Colorado, housing inventory is at an all-time low, often leading to multiple offers for the most desirable in-town homes in this competitive marketplace. Buyers shopping for new construction will experience prices in the $250.00+ per square foot range for a higher quality finish while entry level homes, in limited inventory, start around $260,000. Many buyers utilize AirBNB, VRBO and HomeAway to help finance their dream of owning mountain property. As technology and entrepreneurism provides professionals a remote office in Buena Vista, new housing options such as “live-work” units, row houses, and condominiums are filling this much needed housing product. If you are not quite ready to own a home in Buena Vista, consider purchasing a piece of vacant land to get a foot in the door in the current marketplace, then build your dream home when the timing is right. In-town vacant lots, walking distance to downtown, are priced around $100,000 in comparison to 2+ acres outside of town starting in the low $50,000 and ranging up to nearly $100,000 for a treed lot with spectacular mountain views. New developments are underway currently to bring additional options to the marketplace.
With easy access to this centrally located mountain town, it’s a snap to realize an extended stay in one of the many vacation rentals, or a shorter stay in one of the new or unique lodging properties while appreciating the variety of activities this beautiful valley offers. Whatever your price point or your goals, there are possibilities for you if you want to call Buena Vista your home. Come join us, soon!
